I’ve ate here 10-20 times now, so I feel like I have developed a nuanced opinion on Dr. Food. First off, they mostly serve Halal food. I work in Charlotte, so I’ve ate a fair amount of Halal over the past 10 years. Taste (5/5): I can confidently say they are the best Halal food truck of all the Halal food trucks I’ve been to. They don’t skimp on the food quantity, they give you plenty to eat, you will be filled up, and the food is delicious. My only small complaint is sometimes they use too much pepper, but that’s a minor thing that only happened once. I don’t like spicy food, so I order the chicken over rice with extra chicken. Their food is healthy for one’s digestive tract too. My only other complaints about the food taste was that the chicken BBQ subs just weren’t that good, so I don’t recommend the subs. I haven’t had the schwarma wraps, so I can’t recommend those either. That said, the things I’ve had that I like are very good and are worth it. I don’t regret going there at all. Menu (4.5/5): they have many options to choose from. My favorites are the chicken over rice, followed by the chicken gyro. My brother also loves the same thing from them. My nephew loves their lamb gyro. I like the chicken gyro myself. My mother isn’t a big fan of chicken/lamb, so she eats a burger, and she likes it. The only complaint is sometimes they didn’t have tomato’s for the burger, but she ate the burger anyway and didn’t complain. All that said, I do wish the chicken over rice plate came with about 20% more chicken by default (my brother agrees). They don’t skimp on the food amount (like I said above), but my brother and I are both 6’3” and 250+ lbs, so we require more than most to fill-up. Price (5/5): as far as Halal goes, it’s one of the pricier food trucks I’ve been to, but they compensate by giving you more food. If you’re in Dr Food Halal, RUN — don’t walk. I ordered the steak & rice with extra white sauce and a little spicy sauce on top and it was absolutely 🔥🔥🔥. The steak was tender and perfectly seasoned, the rice was fluffy and full of flavor, and that white sauce? 10/10. Creamy, savory, and just melts into everything. The spicy sauce added the perfect kick without overpowering it. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and you can tell they care about what they’re serving. It’s the kind of meal that has you thinking about it hours later. Gastonia definitely needed this spot. We’ll 100% be back! 🙌🏼✨
The Food here is good. I get the lamb and chicken over rice with a Fanta, it hits everytime. Some of the best food in Gastonia, and the guys who work there are real nice too.
Man, what a hidden gem! We ran Crowder's and then came here and I can't recommend this place enough. The food is phenomenal, service was awesome. One of the best food trucks I've ever been to!
Absolutely kicking myself for the number of times I have passed by here without stopping to check it out. Great amount of food for the price and the flavor is amazing. Love the subtle spice to the rice and the lamb was really good. The heat of the hot sauce was fantastic and he gave me plenty on the side to amp it up more. Looking forward to going back often and trying more of their dishes. Atmosphere isn't the nicest, but who cares when you are just picking it up, and their service is so fast you won't be sticking around for long anyways. Already recommended it to a bunch of friends who are looking forward to trying it for themselves.
This place is more than your average food truck. Their food is absolutely wonderful and the taste is beyond amazing! The staff is so great and so nice. They always make their food look absolutely beautiful even if you order off door dash. Definitely recommend people giving this place a try. The food always turns out better than you expect.
My favorite food truck in Gastonia. The Shawarma wrap is my favorite. Loaded with chopped chicken. No grisly fat or cartalige pieces. Cooked to absolute perfection. Chicken is super tender. Sauce is the perfect amount. The garlic sauce served on the side perfectly compliments the flavor. Highly recommend. The lamb over rice is delicious as well. They serve it with Ranch Dressing which compliments the Platter, but I also ask for a garlic sauce to enhance it more. Fries are hot, crispy , and well seasoned. I highly recommend this food truck.
Love this food truck! Their food is amazing. I eat the lamb and chicken over rice at least once a week. It’s so delicious! I can’t get enough of it lol.
First time here and this is the best truck I have ever been to. He was super friendly. I took his recommendation for the lamb/chicken mix. I didn’t even need the extra sauce. No sauce needed at all; so much flavor and everything was naturally seasoned. 👌🏾 I would definitely come back to try other items.
I stopped by Dr Food in Gastonia and was seriously impressed. I ordered the chicken shawarma, and the chicken was perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. The garlic sauce added amazing flavor, and the pickles gave it the perfect tangy crunch. I also got the chicken over rice, and it was just as good. The portion size was generous, the chicken was flavorful, and everything was fresh and well-prepared. You definitely get great value for your money. What really stood out was how clean and well-maintained the food truck was. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and provided excellent customer service from start to finish. If you’re looking for delicious food in gastonia with great portions, quality ingredients, a clean environment, and outstanding service, Dr Food is absolutely worth checking out. I’ll definitely be coming back!
